MUMBAI: The Agripada police recently arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl with learning disabilities for the last nine months. Accused Kamal Khan, a worker at zari unit at Momenpura in south Mumbai, fled away to his native town Kolkata after he learned about the police complaint, but was arrested.

Khan targeted the girl at the residence of his employer whenever she visited the house. "The girl was acquainted to the family of Khan's employer and would frequently visit their house near the zari workshop. Taking advantage of nobody's presence, he began targeting the girl who never revealed about the incident to her parents," said a Agripada police officer

The incident came to light after the family learned of their daughter's eight months pregnancy. "The family avoided registering a complaint thinking they would convince Khan to marry their daughter. However, when he refused, the family approached the police and submitted an application on August 22. Khan came to know about the same and fled to Kolkata," said the officer.

Based on the complaint received from the victim's parents Khan was arrested after he was tracked down from his native place in Kolkata last week.
