MUMBAI : Apart from forming 12 teams of officials who will inspect school buses in island city, the Tardeo RTO has also created two dedicated squads of officers who will keep a vigil on illegal vehicles ferrying children to school.

"There are lot of vans and private cars who double up as vehicles for transporting students to schools daily. This is unauthorised and they dont have the permits to ferry school children,'' pointed out Tardeo regional transport officer K T Golani. He stated that the department on Friday formed two special squads whose job will be to conduct surprise checks from Monday and keep tabs on vehicles without permits to transport students.

The RTO officials will liaison with senior police officers, traffic cops and officials from the education department on Monday during the Mumbai District School bus safety committee meeting, which will be chaired by police commissioner Satyapal Singh.

"We are leaving no stone unturned to implement the School bus policy and to ensure that every child - from a three-year-old to a teenager - feels safe when he or she travels in a bus to school," Golani added.
