On October 12, 2012, the leader of the opposition in the civic house, Vinayak Nikam of the Jan Andolan Samiti had gone to Borde's chamber along with corporators Sanjay Kohli and Praveen Kamble to discuss civic issues.
The discussion allegedly ended in a heated argument and Borde was assaulted by the corporators. A case of assault and rioting was registered against the corporators with the Virar police.
An inquiry into the scuffle was ordered by the general body of the civic house in November last year. A five-member committee headed by the ruling Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) corporator Umesh Naik was set up.
The committee after eight sittings recommended the disqualification of 11 corporators, Nikam, Kohli, Kambli, Rajendra Patil, Raymond Menezes, Josefine Ferguse, Anita Dangda, Mathura Bhoir, Jyoti Thakur, Manda Patil and Rajan Bhoir.
The samiti alleged that the decision was biased as the committee comprised of corporators from the ruling BVA. The corporators alleged that they were not given an opportunity to present their case.
The recommendation will be placed before the civic general body meeting before it is forwarded to the state government for approval. The VVMC is ruled by former Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur's s BVA. The samiti headed by Vasai MLA Vivek Pandit is in the opposition.
