RPI takes 'pot-shots' at MNS chief Raj Thackeray

MUMBAI: In remarks that are not going to help the reconciliation between the two estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin Raj, RPI leader Ramdas Athavale on Friday said that he is ready to fight elections along with Raj Thackeray provided the latter dissolves his party and joins the Shiv Sena. Uddhav is the party president of the Shiv Sena and his cousin Raj is head of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

Athavale is the leader of the Republican Party of India (RPI) (A) which is in an alliance with the Sena and the BJP in the state.

His remarks which many MNS leaders said were less of an 'invitation' to join the Sena and more of an insult to Raj is bound to lead to more problems that could make reconciliation between the two brothers harder to achieve. Athavale however could be least bothered as he has in the past opposed Raj's MNS inclusion in the Sena-BJP-RPI alliance that would fight against the Congress-NCP combine during the 2014 assembly elections. Athavale has been upset with Raj after the latter has taken continuous pot-shots at Athavale over the Indu Mill issue.
