MUMBAI: Most fleetcabs in the city have recalibrated the e-meters and you can now pay the new fares as per the revised tariff to drivers. There are close to 4,500 fleet taxis in Mumbai. Most of these have now got their e-meters recalibrated. So, you will now pay a fare which has increased by three rupees. The previous fare was Rs 24 for the first one km (minimum distance) and Rs 17 for every subsequent km.
The revised tariff would be Rs 27 for the minimum distance and Rs 20 for every subsequent km. Said a fleetcab operator, "Some of the e-meters are yet to be recalibrated. So, if you are lucky enough to get these cabs, you can still travel by the old fares and save money. But the cabs will be alloted out of turn and all you need to do is pay by the e-meter." The fleetcab operators also plan to introduce more private taxis on the road by early next year. There is a demand for at least 10,000 private taxis in Mumbai.
"It is always difficult getting a confirmation of booking for a fleet taxi,'' said a passenger, Rohit Sampat. "Many time, we book the cab and it is cancelled by the call centre at the eleventh hour." One can book a cab by either calling the helpline/call centre or within 60 seconds on the Internet.
