MUMBAI: Parents of the J B Ludhani high school in Vasai (east) on Thursday protested against the hike in fees from the academic year 2015-16.

Parents took a morcha to the school located in Evershine City, demanding that the hike of Rs 5,000, a year, for students of class one to four be withdrawn. Parents now pay a yearly fee of Rs 13,800. Parents alleged that have to make the entire payment before the beginning of the new academic year. They said that not only is the fee hike steep, the school has not given the option of making payment in instalment.

Parents said that the hiked fee included Rs 1,400 towards dance lessons. Parents said that the school was expecting every student to learn dance. They said that every child may not be interested in learning dance, so charging a fee for it was unfair.

The hiked fee also includes Rs 800 towards purchase of costumes for school functions. Parents said that since every student did not necessarily participate in school functions, collecting the amount from all students was not justified. Parents said that a hike of Rs 5,000 was steep and the school should have increased the fees by a few thousand.
While parents submitted a memorandum of their protests, the school management did not meet them.
