Bypolls in 38 gram panchayats of Palghar

MUMBAI: The bypolls of 38 gram panchayats of Palghar will be held on April 22. The bypolls are being held due to various reasons including boycott of earlier gram panchayat elections by some villages.

A total of 68 seats will be contested. The last date for filing of nomination by candidates is April 7. The scrutiny of forms will be carried out on April 8 and candidates can withdraw their nominations by April 10.

The bypolls are being held as some of the gram panchayats had boycotted the last polls. In some cases, the lack of candidates to contest the reserved seats had forced the gram panchayats to stay away from elections. A bypoll has also been called in gram panchayats where candidates have failed to submit their election expenses on time.
