MUMBAI: Regional discrimination in distribution of development funds rocked the assembly on Tuesday, which was twice adjourned after opposition MLAs created a pandemonium to insist on a special two-day discussion on the report, submitted by former finance commission chairman Vijay Kelkar.
The Kelkar report has exposed the earlier governments' failures in balanced fund distribution among state's various regions, leading to financial and developmental backlogs. Speaker Haribhau Bagde, while allowing the discussion, made it clear that there would no reply from the government.
Opposition leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil first raised this demand when the issue came up. NCP MLA Jayant Patil accused the BJP-Sena government of not being "serious" on irrigation issues. Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said CM Devendra Fadnavis had agreed to detailed discussions on the report during winter assembly session in Nagpur. — Vaibhav Ganjapure
