MUMBAI: The Congress for the second day raised the deletion of the reservation for Muslims in education demanding that it be restored.

In the assembly, Congress MLA Naseem Khan said the reservation had even been upheld by the Bombay high court. He demanded a discussion on the issue.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said it would be allow only if rules permit the reservation. No reservation will be allowed if it is not in keeping with the rules, he said.

Later speaking to the media, Khan said the DF government had sanctioned the 5% reservation based on rules and as recommended by the Sachar Committee report.

Both the chief minister and education minister Vinod Tawade are misleading the public by saying that Muslims already enjoy a 7% reservation in education. He said the only reservation was in the Other Backward Class category.
