Of the 8 kg gold they took from the shop, 5.4 kg was recovered. It was stashed away in a pit dug in a field in Chhittodgad district, said police inspector Chimaji Adhav.
The theft came to light on March 21 when owner of Mayur Jewellers, Vishal Soni, found that the shutter broken and ornaments from the safe gone..
A police officer said they learnt that two staffers, the Kharol brothers, had not reported to work. A check of their call reports data revealed that the two were in the vicinity of the shop, raising suspicion.
Additional commissioner of police KNN Prasanna said that after stealing the ornaments, the two fled to Rajasthan. "The gold was buried in a field," he said.
The brothers planned to set up their store with the booty.
