Be reasonable and fair: HC tells Mumbai in beef ban case

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 12 Maret 2015 | 22.23

The Bombay high courton Thursday asked the Maharashtra government to be fair and consider giving beef dealers a reasonable time to dispose of carcasses of animals already slaughtered or live stock. A division bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice A R Joshi gave the state government a weeks time to clarify its stand.

Advocate general Sunil Manohar said that the state may consider it but made it clear that it would prosecute any person who slaughters bulls and bullocks. The court was hearing a petition filed by Bharatiya Govansh Rakshan Sanvardhan Parishad and other organizations seeking the implementation of the new rules at the Deonar abattoir and other slaughter houses across the state.

Bombay Suburban Beef Dealers' Welfare Association, which had intervened in the matter claimed that the police had seized 10 trucks with animals. They argued that no time was given to take away the animals or carcass.
