Mumbai ward boy held for molesting minor patient

MUMBAI: Police on Wednesday arrested a ward boy for molesting a 15-year-old girl who was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Vikhroli (West). The incident occurred in between 5.30am and 6am when the accused identified as Ajinkya Gamre (21) walked into the ward and committed the offence.

The matter was observed around 6am when the victim told her mother that the ward boy misbehaved with her while she was asleep. "Gamre ran away when the victim woke up when he tried to unbutton her upper clothes. The incident occurred in the ward where 11 other patients were also admitted," said Vikhroli police senior inspector Dinesh Desai.

The victim was admitted in the hospital on Tuesday evening due to ill-health. After learning about the incident, the victim's mother approached the police and got Gamre arrested from the hospital. He has been booked under sections of the IPC for outrage modesty and under the POCSO Act. Investigators are probing whether Gamre has committed similar act with other patients in the past.
