MUMBAI: Four policemen, who had disguised themselves as passengers and travelled in a bus to nab dacoits looting motorists on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway at Kasa, around 110 kms from Mumbai, sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked by the dacoits in the wee hours of Friday.
The Kasa police station inspector Ravi Magar, along with three constables laid a trap for the dacoits who had carried out a series of thefts on the highway at Ambivli. The cops hired a mini passenger bus and arrived at Dhanivari on the highway at around 2 am. The three constables dressed as women in sari pretended to alight from the bus on the ground that it developed a technical snag.
Five dacoits approached the stationery bus and threatened the 'women' passengers. The dacoits were shocked to learn that the 'women' passengers were cops. The dacoits threw red chilly powder on the policemen and tried to flee. Two of them were nabbed by the cops while the remaining three escaped into the nearby jungle. The dacoits pelted stones at the cops who sustained injuries on the forehead. They were treated at the Kasa rural hospital. The highway at Kasa is notorious for dacoits targeting motorists and looting them.
The two dacoits have been remanded to police custody by the Dahanu sessions court. They have been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 395 (dacoity) and 396 (dacoity with murder) of the IPC.
