So you thought there's no room for hauntings in this city? Beneath Thane's modern landscape and highrises, lurk many paranormal tales. Here's looking at some of these urban legends, this Halloween.
Spooky incidents, areas rumoured to harbour ghosts and spirits and inexplicable supernatural occurrences have been a part of the city's legends for a long time now. Some are hearsay and some, as many put it, are a figment of people's imagination. However, there have been instances that Thaneites haven't really been able to explain.
The Cadbury Junction Signal, it is believed, is one of the haunted spots of Thane. Apparently, rickshaw drivers have seen a woman in white in that area late in the night, and the sighting would almost always be followed by an accident. Anisha Shinde a Thane resident says, "The Nitin Casting area also had similar anecdotes."
The haunting of a Ghodbunder Road building society, one of the oldest societies in Thane is a popular rumour. Some residents claim that it all started when a middle-aged man jumped to his death from Building 66B. Since then, the society watchmen have been witness to a couple of spooky incidents which include being slapped by someone invisible. Neha Shah Patel, a resident of the society for over two decades, gives an insider's take.
"There are a couple of instances when some untoward incidents have led to stories that would suggest that the flats in question were haunted. However, in the past many years, I have personally never come across anything supernatural, so I guess it is all hearsay."
