Three men have been booked in the case and slapped with charges of attempt to commit murder. One of the accused, identified as Shailesh Mahajan, has been arrested.
A police patrol spotted Mahajan brandishing a sword near a mall in Gorai around 6am. His two associates fled as soon as they saw the police vehicle. Constable Tukaram Karalkar confronted Mahajan after which the history-sheeter slashed the him. Karalkar sustained injuries on his hand.
The other policemen, accompanying Karalkar, overpowered Mahajan and brought him to Borivli police station. Karalkar, who is attached to the same police station, was taken to a hospital. He was discharged after treatment. "We are questioning Mahajan to find out where he was headed to with the sword. We are also trying to trace his associates," said Narayan Khaire, senior inspector of Borivali police station.
