BEST agrees to increase lights in Mahim lanes

MUMBAI : Activists have been complaining for a year to the BEST and BMC about poor lighting of lanes off L J Road in Mahim. Finally, they have received a response with the BEST acknowledging in writing that there is a "problem" of streetlights and the bulb wattage should be increased to improve visibility.

The activists had complained that the dimly lit lanes are being frequented by drug addicts and have turned unsafe. Activist Irfan Machiwala said, "We hope the authorities provide a solution at the earliest.

In a letter to a G-north ward official, a BEST spokesperson said: "We found the lux readings of streetlights on two lanes off L J Road were less than stipulated." Civic officials were unavailable for comment. — Somit Sen
