Justices Abhay Oka and A S Gadkari reacted after the government's advocate said 109 of the 141 recommendations made in five interim reports of the Dharmadhikari committee have been accepted. They pointed out that they were informed about this at the previous hearing. "It is one thing to say that you have accepted them, but what about implementation of these recommendations?" said Justice Oka.
The court heard two PILs, including one in which it took spontaneous cognizance of the molestation of a woman on a train between Nerul and Juinagar in the wee hours of June 9, 2011.
The judges also questioned the government about the remaining 32 recommendations of which 21 were sent to a special task force as they pertain to changes in the law. They directed the government "to make a statement on the next date on the outer limit for the remaining 32 recommendations".
Petitioner Help Mumbai Foundation's advocate Rajiv Chavan said the government had extended the panel's tenure only till November 30. The judges said the panel's tenure will have to be extended and directed that a decision in this regard be taken before the next hearing on November 11.—Rosy Sequeira
