MUMBAI: Western music artistes in the city are awaiting the annual Daniel Pearl Memorial Concert which will take place in the Fort precinct October 29. Vernon Noronha will sing and play the guitar alongside Hitesh Kumar on the djembe at a bar called The Local at 9.00pm.
This day the organisers will welcome other musicians and patrons into the bar without the mandatory "password" required to enter.
Pearl, who was South Asia bureau chief of the Wall Street Journal, was killed by the Taliban in February 2002. Incidentally, an anti-terrorism court in Pakistan acquitted one of the suspects Qari Hashim Saturday.
This is the 13th year of the annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days which take place throughout October. The reporter, an accomplished violinist, was based in Mumbai for a time and often performed at Soul Fry, Bandra.
Soul Fry owner Meldan D'Cunha said, "The Daniel Pearl Foundation was established to carry on his legacy using music, journalism and dialogue to counter the hatred and violence that took his life. He had performed on several occasions at Bandra, and we have been a part of the annual music event since its inception."
