MUMBAI: A travel agency, Kesari Travels, was on Wednesday ordered by a consumer forum to refund Rs 70,000 and pay up Rs 5,000 to a King's Circle resident for a cancelled trip to the US. The firm failed to refund the complainant, Madhuri Lele whose visa application was rejected.

Lele and her husband had in 2012 booked a trip to the American East Coast for which she had paid up an advance of Rs 70,000. However, when her visa application was rejected, she sought a refund or an adjustment for some other tour. As the agency refused, she went to the Central District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum last year.

The forum accepted her contention that the itinerary stated that the agency would complete visa formalities. It also said that terms of an agreement between Lele and the agency were unilateral with all rights to the agency. The forum said such unilateral terms were not binding on Lele.
