THANE: Most working couples in the city have planned a short holiday this I-Day weekend. Thanks to the Independence Day falling on a Friday, and Gokulashtami the following Monday, August 18, the weekend sure is an extended one.
Since schedules are extremely demanding for working couples, they wait eagerly for long weekends like this. Atul Kukreja, a resident of Vasant Vihar, says, "Combined with my weekend off and the holidays on Friday and Monday, I am getting a four-day break. This is a very rare and happy situation." Atul and his family have booked a resort in Igatpuri and will be spending some quiet, quality time there.
Sreelekha Iyer from Manpada, says, "My husband and I have taken two days off from work and so, I can have a six-day mini vacation. We are going to Goa, because we love it there in the rains. Beach destinations have their own charm in the monsoon season." There are many young couples who are just driving down to Khandala or Lonavala. Says Kanti Pednekar from Wagle Estate, "The drive from Thane to Khandala is a refreshing one. Of course, the destination is what we are looking forward to, but the fact that the drive is so nice makes us all the more gung-ho about the short trip."
