S Ramadorai, Chairman, NSDC, said, "This year again we have embarked upon a massive task. The challenge ahead may seem daunting. However based on the past performances, I have the fullest confidence in our Training Partners', Sector Skill Councils, assessors and the team at NSDC will rise to the occasion and meet the challenge head on."
For the fourth year in a row NSDC achieved the annual targets set. In fact in 2013-14, NSDC had crossed its skilling target and brought 1.05 million youth into the skilling eco-system. Including the number of people skilled under the National Skill Certification and Reward Scheme also known as STAR scheme to total for 2013-14 was 1.3 million skilled Indians.
Ramadorai further said, "While we are fully focused on delivering the number of skilled people as promised at the start of every year, we are also completely conscious of the quality of the manpower we deliver. We have robust and well defined quality checking processes that ensures that the skilled hands we deliver meet the needs of the industry. We believe skilling must improve the employability of our youth, create greater employment opportunities and support their entrepreneurial spirit. Events such as the bi-annual Partners' Meet that concluded today are designed to ensure that the vision and mission of skilling the youth of our nation is shared by everyone in our eco-system which amongst others include representatives from the Government, both Centre and from the states, members of our Board of Directors, our Training Partners and Sector Skill Councils and end user industry."
Adding to Ramadorai's comments, Dilip Chenoy, MD & CEO, NSDC said, "It has been an exciting journey so far. The two-day Partners' Meet was a grand success with the number participant being more than twice that of the last meet held in December 2013. This growing interest among other things shows the seriousness with which the Skilling Mission is being taken in our country. We concluded the two-day meet with great confidence of skilling 3.3 million youth this year."
During the two-day event, NSDC also signed four Memorandums of Understanding with University Grants Commission, University of Pune, National Urban Livelihood Mission-Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu Open University. The Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission signed Service Level Agreements with eight Sector Skill Councils within NSDC.
The close of the event saw five awards bestowed upon IL&FS Skill Development Corporation (Best Performing Partner), LabourNet Services (Best Sustainable Initiative), Gram Tarang-Jatni (Best Training Centre), Kushal-CREDAI (Most Compliant Training Partner), Pan IIT Alumni Reach for India (Best Upcoming Partner).
