New escalator for train commuters at Vikhroli

MUMBAI: Vikhroli commuters can rejoice as a new escalator will come up at the station tentatively this week.

"Commuters can benefit from the escalator which, besides providing comfort to passengers, will also speed up dispersal from platforms and station,'' said CR spokesperson A K Singh. It is learnt that besides this escalator, the railway board had approved 19 more escalators for the suburban stations on CR. With this, the total number of escalators on CR will rise to 27.

The 19 escalators which have been approved include four each for Dadar, LTT and Thane stations, two each for Kalyan, Ghatkopar and Lonavla stations and one for Bhandup.

At present, the CR has two escalators each at Dadar, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan stations. The cost for setting up each escalator is around Rs 1 crore, an official said, adding the funds for the 19 new escalators will soon be alloted and the work for the same will commence.
