Man apprehended with 30 stolen phones worth Rs 4.05 lakh in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Thirty stolen cellphones, worth Rs 4.05 lakh collectively, were found on a man at Borivali station on Monday. The GRP took him into custody and on questioning, learnt that he was a dealer in stolen handsets. Adil Qureshi, 28, the accused, resides at Null Bazaar where he also runs a small shop. He hasn't been co-operating with investigators and is yet to provide information on the men who sold him the phones.

"The handsets found on Qureshi are all smartphones smartphones. We had received information that he was to meet someone at Borivali station. We then laid a trap and apprehended him from platform 6," said an official from Borivali GRP. Officials believe Qureshi would change the IMEI number of the handset before sale. Two of the phones found in his possession were stolen from the jurisdiction of Borivali GRP. Their owners were contacted by the cops and summoned to the police outpost for verification.

The GRP is now checking if Qureshi has a past crime record.
