3 held for extortion in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The city crime branch on Thursday arrested three persons including a former member of Chhota Rajan gang for allegedly threatening Shapoorji Palanji and demanding Rs 2 crore in extortion money.

The three arrested persons have been identified as Mukesh Ghag, Eknath Ghadge and Qasim Qureshi. Interestingly Qureshi is the same person who had allegedly in connivance with police officials involved in framing builder Rajendra Chaturvedi in attempt to murder case in 2007 at Juhu.

Acting on the complaints of SD Corporation the Crime intelligence Unit (CIU) on Thursday laid a trap and arrested trio when they came to accept the extortion sum of Rs 50 lakhs at the builder's office in Tardeo. The SD corporation is carrying out a huge redevelopment under SRA where trio who are resident of said area, were threatening builder and was causing obstacle in the project.

``In a bid to extort, the accused were even giving false complaints, misusing the information under RTI. Act and misguiding and inciting the local slum dwellers and tenants with the ulterior motive using name of Chhota Rajan. They threatened Dilip Thacker director of S D corporation with dire consequences''said Mukesh Waghela, project manager. Waghela also received threatening calls from an international number asking to cough up the money or face the consequences.
