Mumbai woman tortured for flat, hangs self

MUMBAI: A 29-year-old Nalasopara woman allegedly hanged herself due to harassment by her husband and in-laws to get money for a flat.

The husband Ajay Panchal has been arrested for driving his wife Jigna to suicide.

Jigna was pressurized to bring money from her maternal home for purchasing a house. Jigna was unable to bear the physical and mental torture, said a relative of the victim.

Ajay has been booked under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 34(common intent) of the Indian Penal code.

Her in-laws have not been arrested. The body has been send for autopsy.
