Encroachments removed from plot meant for EWS

SURAT: In a major demolition drive to remove encroachments from reserved Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) plots, officials of Athwa zone removed more than 105 unauthorized structures known as Ambedkarnagar in Bhatar area built on plot meant for economically weaker section (EWS) housing.

"We have freed nearly 37,000 sq feet of land meant for construction of EWS housing the road adjoining that by removing these encroachments," said an official from Athwa zone of SMC.

Those whose houses were demolished have already been given alternate housing in Althan area of the city. This removal of encroachments will pave way for speedy construction of EWS houses in the area.

Similarly, officials of Katargam zone of the city also demolished unauthorized structure from 25,000 sq feet of land in Utran area of the city. Slum settlement known as Samta nagar with 116 huts was demolished and slum dwellers were given alternate housing in different parts of the city.
