According to police, at around 3am on Tuesday an alert citizen called up the Kalwa police station and control room and informed that a gang of robbers has entered the Matruchaya building in Kalwa and are indulged in house-breaking.
The constables Vishwas V Walawalkar, Kailas S Basthe, and Nandakumar Patil reached the spot and the robbers who were armed with the bricks and weapons attacked them paver blocks, bricks, knife etc.
"Walawalkar and Bashte sustained serious injuries on head and were treated at private hospital. However, taking the advantage of darkness, the accused managed to give a slip.
Walawalkar has got seven stiches on his head while Basthe has sustained a skull fracture while Patil has got a minor injury on his hand," said a police official from Kalwa police station.
A case has been registered at Kalwa police station and has launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
