MUMBAI: A Jogeshwari housewife's plans to attend a wedding in UP with her family were ruined after her jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh was stolen from a long-distance train on Thursday. Sunita Yadav said the incident occurred between Bandra Terminus and Borivli station around 11pm. She called up a family friend who rushed to the Bandra GRP outpost and then to the Andheri GRP, but both refused to take down his complaint as the offence had been discovered at Borivli station. Yadav eventually lodged an FIR at Gorakhpur.

Yadav had boarded Avadh Express with her husband, child, brother and brother-in-law from Bandra Terminus around 10.30pm on Thursday. The family had a lot of luggage and placed it under their seats. "The train wasn't fully occupied from Bandra. We had six seats. The adjacent section was not lit. We noticed that a man dressed in a ticket checker's coat and his aide were asleep there," said Yadav.

As the train reached Borivli, the man dressed in a TC's coat switched on the lights in his section and said a suitcase was lying open with its contents strewn. Yadav was shocked to see that it was her suitcase. The man and his aide vanished. An FIR was lodged two days later when Yadav got off at Gorakhpur.
