"From May 29 onwards we are launching a drive across the state to enrol voters. All citizens whose names do not figure on the list must take this opportunity to fill the form and ensure their names are on the voters list,'' said Anil Walvi, deputy chief electoral officer, Maharashtra.
There have been numerous complaints of deletion of names from voters list both from citizens as well as political parties. Public interest litigation was also filed in the Bombay high court against the Election Commission.
The Commission, however, maintained it had followed due process and widely publicised its intention to carry out correction of the electoral rolls. Around 50 lakh voters' names were deleted in the state last year and around 62 lakh new names added.
