Daily wage worker held for raping minor at Mahim

MUMBAI: A daily wage worker has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl at her home in a Mahim slum on Friday. The incident occurred when the survivor's parent's has gone to neighbour's house, said the Mahim police. Accused Mohammed Shaikh (19) was arrested from the neighbourhood sometime later after he committed the offence. His luck ran short when the survivor's mother saw him abusing her daughter.

Shaikh is known to the survivor's parent's and regularly visited their house to play with the minor. On Friday, as usual, he went to the survivor's home and on seeing the minor playing outside and no one at her hutment he planned the offence. "Shaikh on pretext of playing with the survivor took her into her house and forcefully committed the offence," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Dhananjay Kulkarni.
The victim's mother, in the complaint, said, "If we would have not returned back around 9.30pm Shaikh would have made an easy escape from the locality. He committed the offence after we stepped out of the house around 9pm. On seeing us back Shaikh left our daughter and managed to escape."

On hearing the survivor and her parent's scream, neighbor gathered and got hold of Shaikh and after thrashing him handed him to the police. "Shaikh has been booked under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He is remanded to police custody till May 21.
The survivor has undergone medical examination at Sion hospital and her condition is stable," said Mahim police senior inspector Dastagir Mulla.
