Civic engineers threaten to stage protest

MUMBAI: The municipal engineers' union has threatened to stage a three-day protest against the BMC administration from May 27 to 29 for not fulfilling their demands. The agitation is likely to affect essential services such as water supply and collection of garbage.

The Municipal Engineers Association has been demanding that their salary should be on the sixth pay commission scale and they should also be paid arrears; besides, they have been saying no criminal case should be registered against the engineers who have been suspended following a building collapse in Dockyard Road. They also said the 10 officials arrested following the crash should be granted bail. "Our demands weren't met even after we were promised by the commissioner," said S Rajadhyaksha of the union.
