MUMBAI: Two government employees of the state agriculture department in Dahanu were arrested by the Thane Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a bribe from the complainant for forwarding his file to the district office on Tuesday.

The complainant Chirag Mehta (30) who runs an agro centre in Dahanu had approached Harshvardhan Bhagat (51) and Kiran Kothari (32) of the agriculture department to know the status of his file. Mehta had applied for a licence to procure pesticides, seeds and other fertilizers. Bhagat and Kothari demanded Rs 15,000 to forward the file to the department's Thane office.

Mehta approached the ACB who laid a trap on the officers. Mehta agreed to pay the cash and set up a meeting with Bhagat and Kothari at Ashagad in Dahanu on Tuesday evening. They were caught red-handed while accepting the money. Bhagat and Kothari have been booked under sections 7,12,13 (1) (d), and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
