MUMBAI: One of the shooters who fired at Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) member Shailesh Thakur has been arrested. Donald Correa (34) who allegedly fired at Shailesh (39) outside his office in Wadavli, Naigaon on December 1 has been arrested. The total arrest has gone up to nine.
This includes Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) corporator Sushma Thakur's husband Nitin (52) and son Yashodan (28). Nitin is a senior BVA leader and close aide of BVA founder and former MLA Hitendra Thakur. Nitin had allegedly given the contract to Donald to kill Shailesh, a real estate agent.
Shailesh died on admission to the hospital. Nitin was allegedly threatened by Shailesh's growing popularity in political circles. Nitin and Shailesh were cousins. The plan to eliminate Shailesh was hatched during Diwali in November.
The police has recovered two swords used to assault Shailesh's friend Prakash Handore (45) who was standing with him when the firing took place. Handore sustained injuries and is being treated in the hospital. The police recovered the car used in the crime.
