MUMBAI: The D B Marg police on Wednesday booked five trustees of Shripant Bhuvan Charitable Trust for cheating after they sold the trust's property by forging documents. The accused have duped the turst to the tune of Rs 9.5 crore.

The complainant, Neelam Rane, one of trustees approached the court taking up this issue. The court ordered the police to file and FIR and investigates. Police said the trust building is located near Girgaum Chowpatty.

Rane told police that three trustees, Meena Deshpande, Mahesh Mandar and Vijay Mandar, sold three flats to two persons during March and September this year. "Two of the accused trustees stayed in the trust building. Rane told us that they prepared forged documents with the help of the third accused and without the consent of other trustees, sold three flats to Sameer Zaveri and and Hetal Zaveri. Each flat was sold for around Rs 14 crore," said a police officer.

As per government norms, when a charitable trust's property is sold, 33% of the total amount earned has to be given to the trust. In this case, 33 per cent on the sale of three flat amounts to Rs 9.5 crore has not been given to the trust. Police have also booked Sameer and Hetal for buying the properties from the trio.
