MUMBAI: A sessions court hearing the Shakti Mills rape case has directed that an amicus curiae (friend of the court) to be appointed after four accused sought a transfer of the case to another court. The matter will now be heard on December 26.
The accused Siraj Khan, Vijay Jadhav, Ashfaq Shiekh and Salim Ansari had earlier made an application before the court, stating that they had no faith in the court. Principal judge Shalini Phansalkar Joshi however, rejected the application and allowed the accused to file an appeal in the Bombay high court. During the hearing the accused did not allow their lawyers to cross examine the prosecution witness.
"After the accused denied the cross examination of the prosecution's witnesses, the court held that it would appoint an amicus curiae in the case, who would help the court, find a solution for the same," a lawyer said.
