Consider nod for PG ortho course at INHS Asvini: HC

MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Wednesday asked the Medical Council of India to inspect INHS Asvini, a well-known naval hospital, and consider its application for recognition to its post-graduate orthopaedic course.

The court was hearing a plea by two doctors who had done their MS (Orthopaedics) from the hospital. The MCI had refused to give approval saying the faculty had a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and not an MD, as was mandatory.

Advocate Rui Rodrigues, counsel for the hospital, said the institution had complied with the conditions and DNB had been recognized in 2010 as equivalent to MD.

court has asked the MCI to consider application for grant of approval to the course, as well as the two doctors who had completed the course.
