MUMBAI: If you thought pick pockets exist only in Mumbai local trains think again. A woman was robbed of her cash in a Bhayander bank by two women who slit her handbag and removed the bundle. The incident occurred in the Bank of India's branch in B P Road, Bhayander (east) on December 6.
The Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) installed inside the bank has captured the robbery. The complainant Seeta Chaurasia (26), a resident of Navghar Road in Bhayander (east) had gone to the bank to withdraw cash at around 11.15am. After withdrawing Rs 50,000, she kept the cash safely inside her hand bag. She then stood in the queue to update the passbook. After updating her passbook, when she opened the hand bag to keep the passbook, she found the cash bundle missing. She raised an alarm.
Bank officials examined the CCTV and found that two women, in their early 20s, were standing behind Chaurasia while she waited for her turn to update the passbook. The CCTV footage shows that while one of the woman covered her, the other used a blade to slash open her bag and pull out the cash. The CCTV footage shows the two women entering the bank behind Chaurasia. Chaurasia in her complaint to the Navghar police said that she had seen the two women enter the bank but did not suspect them. She said that the women were seen talking to the security guard of the bank.
Chaurasia in her police statement said that she had overheard the security guard asking the women about some cash. The police are examining the CCTV footage which has captured the images of the women. The security guard has also been questioned but he claimed ignorance about the women.
