MUMBAI: The Bhendi Bazaar redevelopment project is slated to be completed in the next three-four years.

The announcement was made at the just-concluded occasion of Muharram by Syedi Mufaddal Bhaisaheb Saifuddin, successor of Dawoodi Bohra community's spiritual leader, His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin.

He urged community members to work towards creating 'green' neighbourhoods and said that the Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) will resettle families in Bhendi Bazaar from their rehabilitation facilities within three-four years.

The Mumbai-based SBUT, a public charitable trust run by the Dawoodi Bohra community, is redeveloping the 16.5-acre Bhendi Bazaar area to provide quality infrastructure and housing to 3,200 families and 1,250 commercial establishments

in this highly congested south Mumbai locality. Over 85% acquisition of buildings have been completed and 17 dilapilated structures have been demolished.

Presently, 1,230 families have already

been rehabilitated in the fully-equipped transit facilities in Mazgaon and Gorapdevneighourhoods in Mumbai

. The first 200 units in the recently inaugurated commercial transit-Mufaddal Shopping Arcade-provided by the trust have also started to relocate business establishments post-Muharram.
