MUMBAI: If you found Saturday's heat too much to take, you were not very off the mark. The infamous October heat is here. Temperatures in the city rose above 36 degrees Celsius, causing extreme discomfort.

On Saturday, Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2 degrees Celsius, while Santa Cruz recorded 36.5 degrees Celsius—both three degrees above normal.

Saturday's temperature ranks fifth in the list of highest October temperatures in the last decade. The Met department has said that one of the reasons behind the city witnessing such high temperatures is that the monsoon has finally withdrawn. "On Saturday, the monsoon was declared withdrawn from about 95% of Maharashtra. Barring three districts in the state, which have received little rainfall, all the others are now safely dry," said K S Hosalikar, deputy director general, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

No rainfall also means that there is less humidity. On Saturday, Colaba recorded an evening relative humidity of 76% and that in Santa Cruz was 63%.
