Adnan Sami under lens for evasion of service tax

MUMBAI: The service tax department has said that Pakistani singer Adnan Sami evaded tax that has led to a scrutiny by the department. Commissioner of service tax R Sekar confirmed that a probe was on.

Sami registered with the department last year but had not paid the tax since the last one year, officials said. The singer is required to pay 12.36% of his earnings as service tax. On October 15, officials recorded his statement; he has been summoned again on Monday.He reportedly could not provide documentation since he was sorting out his visa issue. Sami told TOI, "The service tax department asked us to provide documents which we are doing. I am bewildered as to why the department finds it important to talk to the media before talking to me?"
