MUMBAI/ UDAIPUR: A Mulund resident tipped off the local police and helped them rescue a minor girl from the clutches of kidnappers.

The 16-year-old victim from Rajasthan was brought to Mumbai by 22-year-old Babusingh Thakkar on the pretext of taking her on a tour of the city.

The girl was finally handed over to her father, who reached Mumbai along with a team of Phalasia police of Rajasthan on Sunday.

The police also arrested Thakkar and his uncle Devisingh Dasana (36), in whose house the minor was kept since she was brought to the city on September 3. They have been booked under sections 363 (kidnap) and 366 (inducing woman to compel her marriage) of the Indian Penal Code. The Mulund man, who was searching for a bride, met Dasana's friend after the latter brought him a marriage proposal.

"The mediator asked Dasana to bring the girl to the would-be bridegroom's house. The person (informer) got suspicious when he saw the girl and informed us," said Jivajirao Jadhav, senior inspector of the Mulund police station.

The girl told the police, "Thakkar disappeared after leaving me in his uncle's house. Later, his uncle sexually abused me before he tried to get me married to
another man." "We have asked our Rajasthan counterparts to probe the rape charges leveled by the girl," Jadhav said.
