On September 2, Vaidehi Pawde (25), a resident of Boisar was rushed to hospital after her husband Vaibhav (30) informed that she had fallen in the bathroom. She was declared dead soon after she was admitted.
The Boisar-MIDC police registered a case of accidental death. Vaidehi's autopsy, however, revealed that the victim had been strangulated. Vaidehi's brother Rahul Patil too suspected foul play and gave a statement to the police.
The police on Thursday picked up Vaibhav for questioning when he confessed to the murder. Vaibhav told police that he was jobless since past six months. He had promised to buy a gold earring for his wife when he had a job.
Vaidehi insisted on getting the earring ahead of the Ganesha festival. Vaibhav did not have the money to buy the ornament.
Fed up of the constant nagging for not buying the earrings, Vaibhav strangulated Vaidehi. He then dumped the body in the bathroom and called for help. He along with the neighbours took Vaidehi to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
Neighbours too told the police that Vaidehi was found lying in the bathroom.
The accused has been booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC and has been remanded to police custody by the Palghar sessions court.
