MUMBAI: The 18-year-old survivor from Mulund is yet to get over the trauma of the alleged brutal attack she suffered at the hands of a gang of five on July 31 in the abandoned Shakti Mills in Mahalaxmi. The police are waiting to get her counselled before recording her supplementary statement, which will be added to her main statement.

An officer from the Bhandup police station said the survivor, who is a call centre employee, had been battling with herself for the last 35 days before she broke down, revealing the reason behind her and her husband going missing for almost a month after the alleged attack. "My husband and I didn't know what to do.. We thought we could wipe out the bad memories by staying away from the city. We didn't dare to lodge a complaint fearing the humiliation that we have to face in society. But after learning about the arrest of the accused, I wanted to fight the odds to ensure severe punishment for my tormentors." the survivor stated in the FIR.

A probe has also revealed that the five—Salim Ansari, Qasim Shaikh, Vijay Jadhav, Jadhav's 17-year-old nephew and absconding accused Ashfaque Shaikh—snatched the mobile and a laminated photocopy of the PAN card of the survivor's then boyfriend , now husband, who was with her during the attack. The five reportedly robbed the 21-year-old youth before untying his hands after allegedly brutalizing the girl in front of him between 6.30pm and 8.15pm on July 31, said the N M Joshi Marg police. Based on the finding, the police plan to add the charge of robbery in the FIR.

Confirming the development, DCP (Zone III) Vinayak Deshmukh told TOI on Thursday, "The survivor's husband complained that the accused robbed his mobile and a photocopy of his PAN card. We will add the charge of robbery and more, if required, to the FIR after the supplementary statements are recorded. We will also find out if the accused filmed her, which she didn't mention in her first statement." He added that the arrested juvenile, who had been sent to the Dongri remand home, had not revealed anything so far. "We hope that Ashfaque, when arrested, will reveal details on what they have done with the stolen mobile and PAN card copy," Deshmukh said.
