The earlier technician of the Indira Gandhi civic hospital in Poonam Nagar Complex, Bhushan Dangdidas (28) was found to be under-qualified for the job.
A case of cheating was registered against him in June with the Bhayander police after orders were issued by the Thane sessions court.
Patients visiting the civic hospital are forced to get X-rays done from private clinics. They have to incur additional costs for the X-rays which were given free of cost at the civic hospital.
Congress corporator Pramod Sawant raised the issue in the standing committee meeting. He asked the civic administration to appoint a technician on a priority basis as poor patients were suffering.
Dangdidas was allegedly appointed by former municipal commissioner Shivmurti Naik in April 2010. Applications for the post were advertised in newspapers on September 27, 2009.
Five candidates, including Dangdidas had applied. Despite the others being qualified for the post, Dangdidas was selected. The appointment was challenged by a social activist Santosh Baswant who moved the Thane court.
The court directed the Bhayander police to book Dangdidas and Naik for cheating. MBMC deputy municipal commissioner Sudhir Raut and an MBMC employee Govind Parab who were on the appointment panel were also charged with cheating (IPC 420). No arrests were made.
