HC to hear PIL on illegal Facebook arrests

MUMBAI: Bombay high court will hear on Tuesday a public interest litigation seeking against Palghar cops involved in the illegal arrests of two girls for posting comments on Facebook following the demise of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

A division bench of Justice P V Hardas and Justice P N Deshmukh will hear a petition by activist Ketan Tirodkar on the delay in action on the November 2012 inquiry report of the special inspector general (Konkan range) and urged penal action against the cops responsible for the arrests.

Tirodkar's petition states that while the government has taken administrative action there is no criminal action. "Creating false records attracts provision of the Indian Penal Code," he pointed out.
