Doctor sentenced to two years imprisonment in graft case

MUMBAI: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Saturday convicted and sentenced a doctor from G T Hospital to two years imprisonment for demanding a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a patient to waive of money from a hospital bill.

Dr Aditya Sadavarte demanded Rs 1,000 to waive off Rs 5,000 from the hospital bill of a hawker in 2011 who's associate underwent a appendicitis operation. The convict was also fined Rs 20,000. The complainant Mohammed Khan told the doctor that he would return after couple of days with the money. He then approached the ACB who in turn laid a trap and nabbed Sadavarte on December 5, 2011.

The hospital's ward-boy, Laxman Mhamumkar (38) was also sentenced to one year imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 for abetting the crime.
