MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government has admitted that the BEST had issued power disconnection notice to St George hospital for failing to pay power dues amounting to Rs 2.46 crores.

The issue of long pending electricity bills was raised by MNS MLA Bala Nandgaonkar in the recently concluded state legislature session.

Replying to Nandgaonkar's query, medical education minister Dr Vijaykumar Gavit said, "The power supplying company has served disconnection notice for not paying bills."

According to the MNS MLA, the bill amount is escalating every year as the state managed hospital has not paid dues for nearly 11 years. However, he cited the lack of funds as the key reason for delay in paying the electricity bills.

St George hospital is a multi-specialty Government hospital under Sir J J Group of hospitals.
