Spoof on India's highest civilian awards coming up Thursday

MUMBAI: Now that most coveted film and national awards of the year are over, Mumbai will host the "mother of spoof awards" shows, the Sadma Awards on Thursday, July 5. The event is a parody on India's highest civilian awards and remains to be seen how deftly it is handled.

The show will be organised at the St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra. It will acknowledge the most "sordid and disgusting achievements of the year" between "the last two All Fool's Days". Focussing on politics and Hindi cinema the awards nevertheless include other categories like sports, finance and pop culture.

Some categories are Feku of the Year, Foot in the Mouth Award for Maximum Bakwas in a Year and Retirement of the Year.

The nominees' list though has the potential to cause trouble for the organisers given that top national leaders and politicians figure on the list. A senior opposition leader is touted to be performing a rock anthem and announcing the winner of one of the most controversial awards.

The show is devised by Mrinal and Abhigyan Jha, creators of the online stand-up comedy show JayHind.tv.

The awards will be hosted by Sumeet Raghavan, Rajeev Nigam, Aditi Mittal, Varun Grover, Andy Reghu and Ashwin Mushran.
