MUMBAI: It is commonly known that India's film stars, singers and musicians seldom do live shows on home ground as often as they do abroad. The sole Lata Mangeshkar concert hosted by a political party around 15-20 years ago was a rare treat for Mumbaikars even though the singer lives in the megapolis. Now for the first time in almost 20 years composer A R Rahman will perform a series of four concerts in Indian cities in October. Albeit the first concert of his 'RahmanIshq' schedule later this year is slated for August 24 at the All Phones Arena in Sydney, Australia. After a gap of a few weeks on October 1, the India leg of the tour gets under way at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. October 12 Rahman will perform at the Indira Priyadarshini Stadium in Vishakhapatnam. This will be followed by a show at the Bhawani Niketan Education Trust, Jaipur, on October 20. Rahman has chosen to round off his tour with a finale performance in Ahmedabad's Sardar Patel Stadium October 27. True to form the latest technology, sound and visual effects and a dance ensemble will play an important role in his live acts just as they do in his displays of recorded music. Ranjit Barot, Sukhwinder Singh, Javed Ali, Neeti Muhan, Shweta Pandit, Harshdeep Kaur, Vijay Prakash and Mano are the other artistes who will perform. =
