Opposition flays govt over rising vegetable prices

MUMBAI: The Congress led Democratic Front government will have to pay a heavy price over the soaring vegetable prices, said opposition leader in the legislative council Vinod Tawade.

Tawade criticized the government's decision to set up only 100 vegetable fair price outlets in the city for a population of 1.5 crore.

"Owing to the drought situation for the last two years, the area for cultivating vegetables reduced. This was known to the government yet it did nothing to encourage farmers to grow vegetable. Besides the government has not taken any action against middlemen. The government should have anticipated the situation and taken corrective action," he said.
